Picturing America: Places in the Heart, a “Let’s Talk About It” series hosted by The Friends of the Library Southport/Oak Island will begin on Sunday, January 9, and continue through March 9. 2011.
The series is made possible by a grant from the North Carolina Humanities Council in collaboration with the North Carolina Library Center for the Book and will bring together lecturers and scholars from across the state to meet with community members to discuss selected books sharing a theme “ways in which the human experience is shaped by place”.
The books for the series, set in locales throughout the United States, are: Brothers and Keepers, A River Runs Through It, Plainsong and Empire Falls.
All programs will be held at the Harper Library in Southport. Registration begins begins Wednesday December 1, 2010, at the library and is limited to 25 participants. Books will be made available. The program is free and open to the public.
